This year’s Mother’s Day was celebrated last May 8. 2022.
The only time of the year–every year–that mother’s are at the center stage, taking their time in the spotlight. A single day is not enough to thank all the mothers out there for their unconditional love for their family, their dedication and hardwork in everything they do. If you think about it, one in every 364 days is unfair compared to the years they have been caring and looking after us. Don’t you agree?
We asked some of our partner stores how they see their mom. Though cliche it may seem, Ms. Rocelle Alcaparaz, Project Head of Packie, sees her mom as a supermom. She added that her mom does not crumble, even after rocks have been thrown at her. She continues to stay firm and stand her ground. Like Ms Alcaparaz, Mary Joy Laguindab, Project head of Crafts Avenue, her mom is a capeless hero whose sacrifices are priceless–which includes them being physically apart from each other. For Ms. Abigail Cullat, Project Head of ManifeSCENT, her mother would always be her forever role model, adding that she can rely on her on everything.
Intimate moments with our moms will always be embedded into our consciousness, tucked away in our hearts for safekeeping and remembrance. Ms. Alcaparaz’s memorable moment with her mom consists of travelling to Binondo for the Chinese New Year, and the casual trips made to Divisoria just to shop. For Ms. Cullat, one memorable event with her mom is her Senior Highschool recognition day. She recalls her mom “...showing her proudest smile” when she received her medal. The same goes with Ms. Laguindab. Her senior highschool graduation was one of the two graduations that she is with her mom–the other being elementary graduation. She says that “...it is more fulfilling to celebrate your success together with the people you love.”
So, should mother’s day be everyday? Yes! We should always treat our mothers with the utmost respect and to give back, in any way possible, for their love and support.regardless if it is the second Sunday of May or not. Give them a hug, kiss them on the cheek, do small chores that you will think will lighten her workload for the day. Small acts of service can also be a great indicator of love and affection towards other people. If you feel like spending a few pesos, why not buy her a gift? Something she’ll be able to use and remember your efforts by. Try purchasing from our partner stores, such as a scented candle from ManifeSCENT, a merch kit from Crafts Avenue, or a shoulder bag from Packie.
If you want, you could do what Ms. Alcaparaz would do. According to her, she would “...celebrate it by trying out different cuisines from various cultures…” adding that doing this will be “...deeply enjoyed by the both of us.” For Ms. Cullat, she believes that everyday should be a special day cherished with our mothers. She adds that she will celebrate it by “…helping her in household chores and being a responsible sister to [...] younger siblings.” To Ms. Laguindab, she sends her constant Thank Yous, I Love Yous, and even asking her mom how she is. She adds that “Communication is a vital key to stay connected..” and even thanked the digital age to stay connected.
